What is Kin?
Kin looks like a 1960s radio, but inside lives a powerful AI system designed for legacy, safety, and peace of mind. A single brass toggle switch starts a recording. Kin asks daily questions, captures stories, creates AI-powered living portraits, learns wellness patterns, and can even protect the home in travel mode.
Kin is technology disguised as something warm, familiar, and beautiful.
Features
See below descriptions of the main features of Kin!

AI Story Recording
Kin gently lights up each day with a simple question — prompting your loved one to share a memory. A single brass toggle begins recording. Stories are saved automatically and transcribed into our secure cloud

AI Recreation of Loved Ones Thoughts and Mermories
After weeks, months, and years of recording our AI model is able to think, act, and respond as your loved one providing insight or advice when needed based off past memories.

Movement and Sound Detection
Kin uses mmWave radar and Sound detection to learn daily movement patterns and recognize changes. If something seems off, Kin sends a “Yellow Alert” to caregivers. No cameras. No wearables. No stigma.

Companion App
The device is linked to our companion app that allows you to control all the setting that Kin has to offer.

Travel/Security Mode
When the home is vacant, Kin switches into an inverted-logic security mode — alerting you only if motion or sound is detected. Optional camera activation provides visual confirmation.

Privacy Mode
Kin includes a true, physical Privacy Mode that instantly disables:
• mmWave radar
• Wi-Fi CSI sensing
• Camera (if installed)
• Background microphones
How It Works

1
Kin Wakes Up
At a scheduled time, Kin’s amber light glows softly. User may flip toggle switch to record when convenient for them. Kid is designed to ask questions that learn how the user thinks and feels.
2
A Prompt is Asked
Kin asks a simple, meaningful question designed to spark a memory.
These prompts are crafted to be easy, comforting, and engaging —
questions like: “Tell me about a time you felt proud,” or “What was your first job like?”
No screens, no apps — just a friendly voice inviting a story.
3
Flip the Toggle Switch
Your loved one flips the tactile recording switch to begin.
This physical SPST toggle is the “Zero-UI” design described in the patent — intuitive, familiar, and ideal for seniors.
It feels like turning on an old radio: satisfying, effortless, and unmistakably clear.
The amber “On Air” light confirms recording has begun.
4
Your Loved One Speaks Naturally
Kin captures studio-quality audio as your loved one speaks in their own words, at their own pace.
No apps, no logins, no friction.
Just natural storytelling — a chance for them to share memories, moments, and meaning without any technology getting in the way.
5
Story Upload and Processing
Once the story ends, your loved one flips the switch down.
Kin automatically uploads the recording to the cloud, where it is
transcribed, cleaned, and securely stored in their private vault.
No family member has to manage files or handle anything manually.
6
Family Recives a Memory
The completed story is delivered to the family through the companion app.
You receive both the text and the audio — and optionally, Kin can transform the story into a Living Portrait,
an AI-generated video avatar that speaks the story in your loved one’s real voice and natural expressions.
Storytelling, Legacy Preservation & AI Conversation
Kin does more than record stories — it learns from them.
Every recorded memory, tone of voice, phrasing, emotion, and shared experience becomes part of a personal AI model designed to think, respond, and speak like your loved one using the system’s patented Generative Personality Engine.
Through the Kin App, family members can:
-
Ask questions and receive responses generated from real recorded data
-
Interact with a Living Portrait that uses their loved one’s voice and mannerisms
-
Build a library of memories, prompts, and conversations that grow richer over time
It feels less like “talking to AI” and more like preserving a living, evolving relationship — long after the moment has passed.
And for the user, the experience is effortless:
A warm amber light turns on.
A friendly question plays.
A story flows naturally.

Passive Monitoring
Most wellness devices require seniors to wear something or be watched through a camera — both of which cause friction or low adoption.
Kin monitors wellness invisibly using:
• mmWave radar to detect presence and breathing-level micro-movement
• Wi-Fi CSI to sense motion in nearby rooms
• Baseline learning to detect unusual inactivity
If Kin notices a deviation from normal patterns, or no sound, no movement or recording has been logged in a certain time frame it sends a Yellow Alert to caregivers.
Select Models will have camera as well to record visual data
Travel/Security Mode
When the home is empty, Kin switches into a different operating logic.
Instead of confirming a person is present (wellness), Kin alerts you if motion or sound is detected when no one should be home — your patent’s “Inverted Logic” security system.
Security features include:
-
Motion anomaly detection
-
Sound anomaly detection (glass breaking, forced entry cues, unexpected activity)
-
Optional camera activation for instant visual confirmation
Notifications are sent immediately to all authorized users in the Kin App.
Companion App

The Kin App connects to the device and serves as the family’s command center.
From the app, you can:
-
Listen to all saved stories
-
View and share Living Portraits
-
Ask questions and speak with the AI model based on your loved one’s stories
-
Receive wellness alerts (mmWave, Wi-Fi CSI, and sound inactivity)
-
Receive security alerts in Travel Mode
-
Switch between Narrative Mode, Wellness Mode, Travel Mode, and Privacy Mode
-
Upload photos for the Living Portrait
-
Set daily prompt times
-
Manage Wi-Fi and device settings
-
Add or remove authorized family members
This pairing is described directly in the patent’s Companion Application section, which allows remote management of modes, scheduling, media uploads, and sensor behavior.

Our Story
Kin was born from loss — and from love.
In 2020, during the height of COVID, I (Rory Cornelius - CEO and Founder) lost my dad. Like many families, we were left with unanswered questions, unfinished conversations, and a silence that arrived far too suddenly. What I didn’t realize at the time was that the hardest part wouldn’t just be missing him — it would be knowing that I’d never hear his voice again. Never ask him for advice. Never hear his stories the way only he could tell them.
As time passed, that feeling only deepened.
I began thinking about the moments we take for granted. The sound of a laugh. The way someone explains a lesson. The stories that only come out late at night or during quiet mornings. These are the things that disappear when someone is gone — and once they’re gone, they’re gone forever.
That realization became even heavier when I thought about the future.
My dad passed away before I had children. One day, my kids will ask about him — who he was, what he believed, what kind of man he was. And all I’ll be able to offer are secondhand stories and old photos. They won’t truly know him. They won’t hear his voice. They won’t be able to ask him questions the way I wish I still could.
Kin exists because that felt unacceptable.
I started imagining a world where the people we love don’t disappear all at once. A world where stories are preserved naturally, voices are saved intentionally, and wisdom doesn’t vanish with time. A simple device — not an app buried on a phone — that invites people to speak, to reflect, to tell their story in their own words. A way for future generations to feel a real connection to the people who came before them.
If something like Kin had existed earlier, my children would someday be able to hear their grandfather’s voice. They could learn who he was from him, not just from me. They could ask questions. Hear advice. Understand his humor, his values, his perspective.
That’s why Kin was created.
At its core, Kin isn’t about technology. It’s about preserving humanity. It’s about honoring the voices that shape us, keeping families connected across time, and making sure the stories that matter most are never lost to silence.
Kin is for remembering.
Kin is for listening.
Kin is for the people we love — yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Kin is designed to capture life stories and enhance wellness through innovative technology without screens.
Based in San Diego, our mission is to offer peace of mind by preserving legacies.
